Simplicity and Durability

The Tradewinds House was constructed in an area susceptible to very high storm surge.  Built shortly after the flood event associated with Hurricane Floyd, the owners wanted a vacation house that could survive the harsh conditions with minimal maintenance.  The house is built on concrete driven piles with precast concrete beams and precast concrete deck slabs.  All other elements below the main living level (including the main stair) are designed to break away in a major storm event, leaving the remainder of the house intact.
