The Tyler McConnell Bridge spans Brandywine Creek in Wilmington, Delaware, a site that is home to Elutherian Mills, where the DuPont Company was founded and built its first gunpowder mill. This is a historical site of great local and national significance.
Touchstone Architecture provided historic and aesthetic design for the Delaware Department of Transportation in their effort to address Section 4 (f) and Section 106 historical documentation and mitigation process requirements.
Designed with native stone, this replacement arch bridge honors its ancestry by style and construction material, yet its modern day accoutrements will provide capacity for a growing transportation demand in Wilmington’s suburban area.
